Jennifer Etuh Foundation Delivers Free Major Surgeries and Healthcare to 3000 Indigents in Imo
Over 3000 indigent individuals, including people living with disabilities, widows, and children, have received free major surgeries and comprehensive healthcare services through a one-week outreach program organized by the Jennifer Etuh Foundation. This non-governmental and humanitarian organization, established in memory of the late Mrs. Jennifer Ramatu Etuh, conducted the initiative at the Jennifer Etuh Medical Centre in Umunoha, Mbaitoli council area of Imo State.
Extensive Healthcare Services and High Costs
The healthcare program, which cost over Five Hundred Million Naira, was specifically designed to provide access to quality and free medical services for grassroots communities, particularly the less privileged. Services offered included triage, general consultations, dental care, eye care, eye surgeries, obstetrics and gynecology, and health counseling, among others.
Significant Impact and Patient Numbers
Mr. Joe Otu, the Program Manager of the Foundation, highlighted the far-reaching impact of the outreach, noting that the number of beneficiaries has surpassed expectations. He provided detailed statistics: "On the first day, 1,586 individuals were attended to, receiving 1,555 medical interventions. By the second day, the numbers grew to 1,780 patients with 1,763 interventions. In just two days, 1,366 lives have been touched through 3,318 medical interventions."
Otu emphasized that the foundation's target is to reach 3,000 patients, and they are well on track due to undeniable momentum. He stated, "The increasing numbers are reminders that while numerous lives are being touched, the need is still vast and the work is far from finished."
Comprehensive and Patient-Centered Care
Regarding the program's impact, Otu shared specific achievements: "For instance, for those with eye problems, we have done over 120 surgeries and offered medical interventions to over 200 other patients. These are not surface-level engagements; the ratio of interventions to patients reflects comprehensive and patient-centered care."
He added that this approach ensures quality and thoroughness in delivery, distinguishing it from outreach models where volume might overshadow depth. Otu further appealed for support from stakeholders, partners, and well-meaning individuals to sustain and scale the initiative, encouraging referrals, network amplification, and contributions of resources or expertise.
Gratitude from Beneficiaries
Beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude to the foundation for its humanitarian gesture and offered prayers for the continued success and impact of the healthcare program. This outreach underscores the critical need for accessible healthcare in underserved communities and the vital role of philanthropic efforts in addressing such gaps.
