Lions Club Vows to Complement Federal Government's Healthcare Delivery Efforts
The Lions Clubs International, District 404B4, has reaffirmed its dedication to a more robust humanitarian engagement across Nigeria, pledging to scale up health and community interventions to support government initiatives. This commitment was emphasized during the investiture and charter presentation of the Abeokuta Premium Lions Club in Ogun State.
Strategic Expansion for Underserved Communities
Pharm. Adebowale Afolayan, the District Governor for the 2025–2026 term, highlighted that the expansion of Lions Clubs is a strategic move aimed at reaching underserved communities and delivering people-centered services. He described the organization's mission as simple yet powerful: service to humanity, with a focus on making a measurable impact in Nigeria.
According to Afolayan, the Lions Club has achieved significant milestones in the health sector. These include the construction of a 20-room accommodation facility at the Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta and the establishment of a 15-point dialysis centre at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). He stressed that humanitarian development requires collective responsibility, noting that even modest contributions can lead to lasting change.
Call for Partnerships and Collaboration
Afolayan invited well-meaning individuals to partner with the Lions Club to extend their reach and touch more lives. He added that the newly chartered Abeokuta Premium Lions Club will enhance the organization's capacity to address community needs, particularly in areas such as healthcare, youth development, and social welfare.
In his acceptance speech, Lion Shafih Amusa, the Charter President of the Abeokuta Premium Lions Club, reaffirmed the club's dedication to service and collaboration with public institutions. "Service to humanity remains the heartbeat of Lions Clubs International," Amusa stated. "With a clear agenda and structured programmes, we are poised to support government initiatives and drive sustainable community development."
Urging Government Synergy for Progress
Amusa called for stronger synergy between government bodies and humanitarian organizations, arguing that meaningful progress is best achieved through partnership. He urged public authorities to prioritize citizens' welfare by addressing critical issues such as unemployment, ensuring prompt payment of pensions, and investing in social safety nets.
"When we work together, we can build a safer, more inclusive society," he said. "That is the path to a brighter Nigeria." The event underscored the Lions Club's ongoing efforts to complement federal government actions in healthcare delivery and community support, aiming for a collaborative approach to national development.
