Nigerian Cancer Society Demands Full Investigation Into Blessing CEO's Controversial Cancer Claims
The Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) has called for a comprehensive investigation into social media personality Blessing Okoro, widely known as Blessing CEO, over allegations of false cancer claims and potential donation misconduct. The organization expressed deep concern about the controversy, warning it threatens public trust in cancer advocacy and support systems.
Society Condemns Alleged Exploitation of Cancer Narratives
In an official statement signed by National Director of Publicity Bashir Mohammed Ranccas, the NCS described the development as disturbing and unethical. The Society emphasized that exploiting cancer narratives for personal gain could severely damage public confidence and jeopardize support for genuine patients battling the disease.
"Cancer is not a tool for manipulation," the statement declared, noting that such actions, if proven, could undermine years of advocacy work and discourage life-saving generosity from donors. The NCS revealed plans to involve relevant security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure appropriate sanctions for anyone found culpable.
Cancer Survivor Alleges Medical Report Manipulation
The controversy intensified when Nigerian cancer survivor Mrs. Deborah Mbara came forward with explosive allegations. In a viral video, the creative director of Zazi Beauty Place in Asaba, Delta State, claimed that Blessing CEO manipulated her medical report to support false cancer claims.
Mrs. Mbara recounted how she initially assisted Blessing CEO as a makeup artist during a shoot. When Blessing CEO recently claimed to be battling stage four cancer, Mrs. Mbara reached out to offer support, prayers, and medical advice. According to her testimony, Blessing CEO requested a copy of her old medical report, claiming she wanted to compare it with her own doctor's diagnosis.
"I thought I was helping someone in need, not knowing she had another agenda," Mrs. Mbara said tearfully in the video shared on her Instagram page. "Please, Nigerians, I don't know anything about the report she is using to scam people of their money. I am not a party to it. This is evil, this is wickedness, this is demonic."
Alleged Donation Solicitation Under False Pretenses
According to the NCS statement, Blessing CEO reportedly solicited financial assistance from Nigerians, citing a serious health condition, and received substantial donations from sympathetic members of the public. Emerging allegations of misrepresentation have cast serious doubt on the authenticity of her claims, prompting widespread public outrage.
The Society expressed particular concern about how such actions could affect genuine cancer patients who rely on public support and donations for treatment. The fragile ecosystem of cancer advocacy in Nigeria faces potential damage from this controversy, according to the NCS assessment.
Legal Consequences and Public Backlash
Legal experts have warned that Blessing CEO could face serious consequences if the allegations are proven. Barrister Atanda Olatunji previously reacted to the medical result forgery allegations, noting that the case could become serious given that donations were sought using the claims.
The lawyer indicated she risks facing charges including:
- Forgery of medical documents
- Identity theft
- Obtaining money under false pretenses
These charges carry possible prison sentences under Nigerian law. Meanwhile, Nigerians online are demanding accountability, a refund of donations, and a public apology from the controversial personality.
Impact on Cancer Advocacy and Public Trust
The NCS emphasized that maintaining public trust is crucial for cancer advocacy organizations working to support patients and fund research. Allegations of this nature threaten to erode confidence in legitimate cancer support initiatives and could discourage future donations to worthy causes.
Mrs. Mbara, who revealed she had just completed therapy in January and was still recovering when the scandal broke, said her husband and close friends urged her to speak publicly to clear her name and protect her family from the fallout. "I am a proud survivor. Jesus saved me," she declared in her emotional video testimony.
The Nigerian Cancer Society's intervention marks a significant development in the ongoing controversy, as formal organizations begin to address the allegations that have captured national attention and sparked heated debates about ethics, accountability, and the exploitation of serious health conditions for personal gain.
