Pepsodent Expands Oral Health Education to Schools Across 17 Nigerian States
In a significant move to promote preventive oral care, Pepsodent, a leading oral hygiene brand under Unilever Nigeria Plc, has launched an extensive school activation campaign across 17 states in Nigeria. This initiative, timed to coincide with World Oral Health Day 2026, aims to instill healthy dental habits among thousands of Nigerian children through interactive learning and engagement activities.
Nationwide Reach and Interactive Learning
The campaign was executed simultaneously in key cities including Port Harcourt, Abeokuta, Sagamu, Ibadan, Ondo Town, Awka, Enugu, Abuja, Lagos, Yenagoa, Keffi, Calabar, Uyo, and Benin City. In total, the program reached 51 schools nationwide, providing children with hands-on education about proper brushing techniques, sugar intake reduction, and the importance of regular dental check-ups. The interactive sessions were designed to make oral health education engaging and memorable for young learners.
Brand Commitment to Preventive Care
Speaking at the Lagos awareness campaign held at Temidire Primary School in Alimosho Local Government, Brand Manager Lauretta Amie emphasized Pepsodent's dedication to preventive oral care. "This campaign reflects our long-standing commitment to oral health, particularly among children who are vulnerable to poor dental habits," Amie stated. She highlighted the brand's 'Do The 2' campaign, which encourages brushing twice daily as a simple, achievable habit for families across Nigeria.
Amie further explained, "We understand that maintaining healthy teeth requires consistent daily habits. Through partnerships, community outreach, and interactive programs, we aim to empower Nigerians with the tools and knowledge to protect their smiles and overall health."
Educational and Community Impact
The campaign received strong support from educational and dental professionals. Dr. Aminat Ige, Education Secretary for Alimosho Local Government, commended Pepsodent for bringing oral health awareness directly to schools. "This initiative raises awareness among both students and parents about the significance of proper oral hygiene habits," she noted.
Dental Surgeon Dr. Abraham Akinbami praised the focus on behavioral change among young people. "It's heartwarming to see Unilever driving oral hygiene habits among children, who are more receptive to change than older individuals," he remarked.
School Administration Response
Moninuola Lawal, Headteacher of Temidire Primary School, expressed gratitude for the initiative. "Bringing this campaign to our school has been remarkable for both pupils and staff. Oral health affects children's confidence, focus, and learning ability," she said. Lawal added that the interactive sessions create lasting impressions that students carry home, potentially influencing household habits and promoting better oral care within families.
Broader Implications for Public Health
World Oral Health Day, celebrated annually on March 20, aims to empower people with knowledge and tools for good oral health, which serves as a key indicator of overall well-being and quality of life. Pepsodent's school campaign aligns with this global objective by targeting children at an early age when habits are most easily formed.
The initiative represents part of Pepsodent's ongoing commitment to oral health advocacy in Nigeria. By combining education with practical demonstrations, the brand continues to expand its reach, empowering children with essential knowledge and habits for maintaining good oral hygiene throughout their lives.
This comprehensive approach not only addresses immediate dental care needs but also contributes to long-term public health outcomes by fostering preventive care practices from childhood.
