Foundation Settles Medical Bills of 25 Stranded Patients at LASUTH
Foundation Clears Medical Bills for 25 LASUTH Patients

The Foundation for Impactful Development and Progress (FIDAP) Cares has provided financial assistance to offset the medical bills of 25 discharged patients at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), enabling them to return home and reunite with their families.

Patients Stranded for Weeks

Findings revealed that the patients had remained in the hospital for weeks after being discharged because they were unable to pay medical bills amounting to several millions of naira.

Founder's Vision

The Founder of FIDAP Cares, Tosin Adedeji, said the organisation is committed to transforming lives through compassion-driven interventions, noting that the healthcare support initiative at LASUTH aligns with its mission. Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, Adedeji described FIDAP Cares as a response to the growing need for structured and sustainable support systems for vulnerable members of society.

“Looking around our world, there is so much we can do to help those around us. Over time, what began as a passion for helping people has become a calling. I have come to realise that the needs around us are not isolated moments; they are recurring patterns that deserve more than individual responses, they deserve institutions,” she said.

According to her, FIDAP Cares was established to serve as a bridge between despair and hope, hardship and relief, and vulnerability and opportunity. She explained that the organisation seeks to provide timely interventions that empower beneficiaries while inspiring a culture of giving within communities.

Hospital Management Commends Initiative

The Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, commended the organisation for its generosity and commitment to humanitarian service. He pledged the hospital’s support for the initiative and announced that LASUTH would recognise FIDAP Cares by including the organisation on its Board of Honour Roll.

“We are grateful for this demonstration of compassion and support for indigent patients. We appreciate the efforts of FIDAP Cares and pray for continued success and greater impact in the years ahead,” Fabamwo said.

The Director of Medical Social Services at LASUTH, Dr Aderemi Lawal, described the intervention as both timely and uncommon.

“We appreciate and thank FIDAP Cares for this intervention. They came in and paid the bills of discharged patients, allowing them to return home and reunite with their families. This is an unusual gesture, and it came at a very critical time.

“Several millions of naira were paid on behalf of these patients. Some had remained in the hospital for days and even weeks after discharge because they could not settle their bills. This intervention has been truly impactful, and we are deeply grateful,” Lawal said.

Future Plans

Earlier during the visit, the Director of FIDAP Cares, Mr Ekinadese Osayande, explained that the organisation is dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals facing critical healthcare challenges. He noted that LASUTH was selected as one of the first beneficiaries because of its reputation as a leading healthcare institution in Nigeria.

According to him, the organisation’s support programme extends beyond settling outstanding medical bills for indigent patients. Osayande said FIDAP Cares also plans to assist patients whose urgent surgeries have been delayed due to financial constraints and explore broader opportunities to support both patients and healthcare workers through strategic partnerships.

He added that the organisation remains committed to expanding its interventions to ensure that financial hardship does not prevent vulnerable Nigerians from accessing life-saving healthcare services.
