The Metropolitan Lions Club of Shagamu has executed a comprehensive community empowerment program touching the lives of hundreds of residents across different demographics in Ogun State.
Educational Support and Women Empowerment
In commemoration of International Girls Child Day, the club visited Regal College in Shagamu where female students received vital hygiene education and practical support. The students were given lectures on maintaining proper hygiene and provided with sanitary pads to support their health needs.
Beyond educational support, the club distributed essential items including toiletries, baskets, and mopping materials to help the students maintain a healthy environment. This initiative aimed to address practical challenges facing young women in educational institutions.
Healthcare Support and Widow Empowerment
The humanitarian outreach extended to healthcare with 70 beneficiaries receiving prescription glasses after comprehensive eye screenings conducted at Eye Foundation in Shagamu. This vision care initiative addressed critical health needs within the community.
In a significant move to support vulnerable women, the club empowered approximately 18 widows with resources to improve their livelihoods. Though specific details of the empowerment weren't specified, such initiatives typically include skills training or business startup support.
Large-Scale Feeding Program and Healthcare Recognition
Marking World Food Day, the organization demonstrated its commitment to fighting hunger by feeding approximately 700 people in the community. This massive feeding program provided essential nutrition to those in need.
The club also extended its activities to Makun Health Centre in Shagamu, where health officers received appreciation and encouragement for their services to humanity. The materials provided to the health center were delivered according to the specific requests made by the healthcare professionals.
Birthday Philanthropy Drives Impact
All these activities were funded by Second Vice District Governor, Lions International, District 404A3 Nigeria, Lamidi Dele Tajudeen, who chose to commemorate his 62nd birthday through humanitarian service rather than lavish celebrations.
Speaking at the event, Lamidi explained his motivation: "I decided to give back to the members of the society that would benefit from whatever I have. I am passionate about the poor, the needy and the less privileged and my joy is to put smiles on their faces."
He emphasized that the cost of all the executed projects meant nothing compared to seeing people happy. This philosophy reflects a growing trend of celebratory philanthropy in Nigeria.
At the Makun Health Centre, Lamidi commended the health workers for their sacrifices, noting that the materials provided were specifically requested by the officers to maximize their utility.
The healthcare officers received additional commendation from District Governor, Lions International, District 404A3, Mary Onu, who praised their commitment to service and dedication to community health.
This multi-faceted outreach demonstrates the Metropolitan Lions Club Shagamu's comprehensive approach to community development, addressing educational, health, and economic needs simultaneously while recognizing the efforts of healthcare professionals.
