3 African Countries Get Thailand Visa-Free Entry in 2026

Thailand's Updated Visa Exemption Policy

Thailand revised its visa exemption scheme on 15 July 2024, allowing nationals of 93 countries and territories to enter without a visa for stays up to 60 days. The policy covers tourism, business engagements, urgent work, and ad-hoc assignments. Travellers can apply for a single extension of up to 30 days at the discretion of an immigration officer, bringing the maximum stay to 90 days.

Only Three African Countries Qualify

South Africa, Mauritius, and Morocco are the sole African nations whose passport holders can enter Thailand visa-free. The list is dominated by European, Asian, and American countries, leaving most of Africa excluded. For citizens of other African nations—including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Egypt—standard visa requirements or visa-on-arrival options apply.

What the 60-Day Rule Means

Qualifying nationals can enter Thailand for holidays or short-term professional work without the paperwork of a standard visa. The 30-day extension offers flexibility but is not guaranteed. After 90 days, travellers may apply for a new visa category introduced alongside the updated rules.

For the three eligible African countries, the policy is a significant travel benefit. For others, Thailand remains a destination requiring advance visa planning.

Turkey's eVisa System

Meanwhile, Turkey's eVisa system allows eligible travellers to obtain an entry permit online without visiting a consulate. Applicants can complete the process with internet access, submitting required details and paying via Mastercard, Visa, or UnionPay. The Turkish government has released the list of documents needed for eVisa applications.
