The Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) has thrown its weight behind the House of Representatives Minority Caucus, which called on President Bola Tinubu to either demonstrate effective leadership in tackling Nigeria’s challenges or step down from office. The opposition coalition stated that the lawmakers’ position mirrors the escalating frustration among Nigerians over worsening insecurity, economic difficulties, and declining living standards.
CUPP Statement on Leadership Failure
In a statement released in Abuja on Thursday, CUPP Acting National Chairman, Chief Peter Ameh, declared the coalition’s full endorsement of the Minority Caucus’ stance. He insisted that the Tinubu administration must urgently address the country’s mounting problems or make way for more capable leadership. Ameh emphasized that public office carries a responsibility to improve citizens’ living conditions, and leaders who fail to deliver good governance should honorably resign.
“In a sane clime, any elected official who refuses to produce results of good governance that will help make the lives of the people better should honourably resign,” he said.
Nigeria’s Growing Crises
Ameh highlighted that Nigerians are currently grappling with insecurity, a rising cost of living, economic hardship, and deteriorating social conditions. He stressed that urgent government intervention is necessary to reverse these trends. The CUPP leader reiterated that President Tinubu and his administration must take immediate and visible steps to address insecurity and economic challenges while restoring public confidence in governance.
“President Bola Tinubu and his administration must step up immediately to address the pressing issues of insecurity, economic hardship, and the general well-being of Nigerians. Leadership is not a right but a responsibility. Where this responsibility is not being discharged effectively, the honourable path is resignation,” he stated.
Commitment to Accountability
The CUPP leader reaffirmed the coalition’s dedication to promoting accountability, good governance, and democratic principles. He added that the group would continue to speak out on matters affecting Nigerians and would closely monitor developments in the country, advocating for policies that prioritize citizens’ welfare and interests.
