DNKI Demands Urgent Government Action on Security, Energy, and Political Costs
De Norsemen Kclub International (DNKI) has issued a strong call to the Federal Government, urging immediate and decisive steps to address Nigeria's escalating security, economic, and political challenges. The group warns that continued inaction could severely threaten national stability, emphasizing the need for comprehensive reforms.
Security Failures Highlighted After Jos Killings
In a statement released in Abuja on Sunday and signed by its International President, Chief Oliver Patrick, DNKI expressed profound concern over recent violent incidents, particularly the killings in Jos, Plateau State. The group described these attacks as "callous and senseless," noting that they resulted in the loss of several innocent lives. DNKI stated that this tragedy underscores what it terms a persistent failure in the nation's security architecture, calling for a swift overhaul to curb rising insecurity nationwide.
While commending President Tinubu for his visit to commiserate with victims of the Jos attack, DNKI stressed that sympathy alone is insufficient. The group advocates for "decisive, strategic, and sustained action," including a thorough review of security policies to enhance effectiveness and protect citizens.
Concerns Over High Costs of Political Participation
DNKI also raised alarms about the increasing cost of political involvement in Nigeria, specifically criticizing the high fees for nomination forms imposed by major political parties. The group warned that such expenses are excluding ordinary Nigerians from the democratic process, arguing that democracy must remain inclusive and not be reserved for the wealthy.
To address this, DNKI urged electoral reforms aimed at promoting affordability, transparency, and equal opportunity for all aspiring candidates. This move, they believe, would help restore public confidence in the political system and ensure broader participation.
Energy Crisis Crippling Economy and Healthcare
On the economic front, DNKI decried Nigeria's persistent electricity challenges, highlighting how unreliable power supply continues to cripple small and medium-scale enterprises. Many businesses have been forced to shut down, while others rely heavily on generators, leading to increased production costs and higher prices for goods and services.
The statement further emphasized the impact of the power crisis on the healthcare sector, where hospitals face rising operational expenses due to dependence on alternative energy sources. According to DNKI, this has contributed to the increasing cost of medical care, making healthcare less accessible to ordinary citizens. The group called on relevant authorities to urgently implement reforms in the power sector, focusing on improving electricity generation, ensuring efficient distribution, and promoting sustainable energy solutions.
Commitment to National Unity and Development
DNKI reiterated its unwavering commitment to Nigeria's unity and development, urging leaders at all levels of government to move beyond rhetoric and adopt people-centred policies. The group emphasized that such actions are essential to restore public confidence and drive national progress, ensuring a stable and prosperous future for all Nigerians.
