The Egyptian Consulate General has published updated visa guidelines for 2026, detailing which nationalities qualify for free entry, visa on arrival, or must undergo security clearance. The framework aims to clarify travel requirements for international tourists.
Free Entry Exemption for Resort Visitors
Citizens of the United Kingdom, United States, and European Union member states can receive a free entry permission stamp when traveling exclusively to Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba, and Taba resorts. This stamp is valid for a maximum of 15 days. Travelers who wish to visit other parts of Egypt, such as Cairo, Giza, or Luxor, must obtain a standard tourist visa.
Visa on Arrival at All Egyptian Ports
For those planning to explore beyond the designated resorts, the consulate confirmed that nationals of 13 countries can obtain a visa upon arrival at any port of entry. The list includes: United Kingdom, United States, European Union member states, Australia, Canada, Croatia, Georgia, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Macedonia, and South Korea.
Nations Requiring Strict Security Clearance
Citizens of eight countries, as well as holders of British Travel Documents, must obtain security clearance before a visa can be issued. These nations are: Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Iran, Mali, Niger, Syria, Palestine, and Israel. The consulate warns that the clearance process can take up to three months.
Nigeria Not on Visa-Free or Visa-on-Arrival Lists
Nigeria is not included on either the free-entry or visa-on-arrival lists for 2026. Ordinary Nigerian passport holders must apply for a standard tourist visa through the Egyptian Embassy or Consulate before traveling.
Context: Germany's Visa-Free List for Africa
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Germany updated its visa requirements, allowing only two African nations visa-free entry. The Egyptian guidelines reflect a broader trend of differentiated visa policies across countries.
