Federal Government Urges Citizens to Monitor Projects via CDT App
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening transparency and service delivery through active citizen participation. This initiative comes as officials acknowledge low public awareness of the Citizens’ Delivery Tracker (CDT) app, a digital platform designed to monitor government projects and performance across Nigeria.
Citizen Dialogue Forum Highlights Accountability Efforts
Speaking at a two-day Citizens’ Dialogue Forum on Government Accountability and Service Delivery held in Abuja on Monday, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Usman, emphasized the administration's dedication to ensuring governance outcomes are directly felt by Nigerians. Usman, who also heads the Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit (CRDCU), detailed ongoing efforts to enhance public engagement and oversight of government initiatives.
The forum was organized by the CRDCU in collaboration with several key partners, including Accountability Lab Nigeria, Open Government Partnership Nigeria, Dataphyte Foundation, and the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office. This event was part of the broader Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement, aiming to foster greater accountability and responsiveness in public service delivery.
CDT App: A Tool for Direct Citizen Engagement
Usman explained that the CDT app, launched in April 2024 under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, was specifically developed to provide citizens with a direct platform to track government projects and report concerns. The app enables users to monitor the progress of various initiatives, submit feedback, and hold officials accountable for service delivery. Despite its potential, Usman noted that public awareness of the app remains limited, highlighting a need for increased promotion and education to maximize its impact.
The government is actively working to address this gap by engaging with communities and leveraging partnerships to spread awareness about the CDT app. By empowering citizens to participate in monitoring, the administration aims to create a more transparent and efficient governance system that directly benefits the Nigerian people.
This push for citizen-led monitoring aligns with global best practices in public administration, where technology is used to enhance accountability and reduce corruption. The CDT app represents a significant step forward in Nigeria's efforts to improve service delivery and ensure that government projects meet the needs of the populace.
