A civil society organisation, the Impact Development Initiative (KDI), has released preliminary findings from its Election Day Data Room, indicating that the Ekiti State governorship election has so far demonstrated a generally orderly and functional electoral process. However, the report also highlights persistent operational vulnerabilities related to election-day logistics, the timely arrival of election officials, commencement of polling activities, and the performance of election technology.
Key Findings from the Data Room
Addressing journalists in Ado-Ekiti, KDI Executive Director Bukola Idowu stated that the evidence suggests the principal challenge facing election administration in Ekiti is not isolated major disruptions but the cumulative impact of multiple smaller operational constraints across different parts of the state. KDI received verified reports from 384 observation locations across the state regarding the arrival of election officials and materials. The analysis showed that 52.3% of polling units recorded early or on-time arrival of election officials, while 47.7% experienced late arrival, based on the official benchmark of 7:30 a.m.
Continued Monitoring and Final Assessment
Idowu said KDI would continue to monitor voting, voter experience, election security, ballot integrity, management of polling unit results, and the collation process. “Our final assessment will integrate election-day observation with post-election verification and forensic analysis to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the integrity, inclusiveness and credibility of the 2026 Ekiti State Governorship Election,” she added.
