Breakthrough Ofure Kimberly, a Nigerian lady, has spoken out against housing discrimination targeting single women after observing her male neighbor host a different woman every weekend. In a Facebook post, she highlighted the double standard that exists in rental practices, where landlords often refuse to rent to single women based on assumptions about their behavior.
Observation of Neighbor's Behavior
Kimberly noted that her male neighbor regularly brings new female companions to his home, including those who argue with Uber drivers, yet he faces no such restrictions. She emphasized that in reality, it is men who frequently host different women without facing discrimination or suspicion from landlords.
Contrasting her own experience, she revealed that since she moved into her apartment almost three years ago, no man has slept in her bed till daybreak or spent more than eight hours in her home. She recounted that the only time a man stayed overnight was an unplanned gathering after a club outing with friends, where everyone crashed at her place around 4 a.m.
Personal Experience of Discrimination
Kimberly detailed that on only three other occasions did men visit her home, and none of those visits were planned or lasted more than four hours. Despite this record, she pointed out the irony that landlords still refuse to rent to single women, citing fears that they will bring men over to sleep with them.
Her post, shared on Facebook, read: “Life isn’t fair to women sha. I just saw this my neighbor with a new babe. Girls come every weekend including the ones who will faiiiight with uber drivers. There’s always a new babe. Always.” She added, “Then there’s me I can count the number of times a man has come to my house almost 3 years since I rented it. Not one has slept over.”

Kimberly’s comments underscore a broader issue of gender bias in the Nigerian rental market, where single women often face stricter scrutiny than their male counterparts. She concluded, “But guess who they’ll not rent a house to.
