Okpebholo, Dangote Task Accountants on Integrity in Finance

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, alongside other prominent speakers, has charged professional accountants to sustain the confidence that Nigerians and public institutions have in them, particularly their long-standing reputation for professionalism, objectivity, integrity, and service in the public interest. He stressed that this confidence must be protected and strengthened for future generations.

Okpebholo Speaks at ICAN Investiture

Governor Okpebholo made these remarks at the investiture ceremony of Queensley Seghosime as the 62nd President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in Lagos. He noted that the institute occupies a strategic place in national development, adding that beyond producing highly skilled professionals, ICAN has consistently made significant contributions to strengthening governance, transparency, accountability, and public sector performance in Nigeria.

He encouraged the new president to continue building bridges, strengthening the profession, supporting the next generation of accountants, and expanding ICAN’s impact both nationally and globally.

Dangote Highlights Role of Accountants

The President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, emphasized the critical role of professional accountants in strengthening accountability, promoting ethical standards, and producing professionals who have contributed meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic growth and institutional development. Represented by the Executive Director of Dangote Group, Fatima Dangote, he noted that the institute remains one of the nation’s most respected professional institutions and a shining example of integrity, discipline, and excellence. He urged practitioners to sustain their commitment to deepening integrity in financial management.

Finance Minister Charges Institute

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, charged the institute to uphold the cardinal principles of integrity and excellence in financial reporting and governance.

New ICAN President Pledges Ethical Focus

In her remarks, Queensley Seghosime pledged that under her leadership, the institute would nurture ethics, integrity, and professional discipline. She pointed out that integrity remains the foundation upon which everything else stands, adding that the institute would strengthen ethical compliance, professional discipline, quality assurance, and continuous ethics education. She assured that the new leadership would strengthen the institution, governance, operational excellence, performance management, and ensure data-driven decision-making, while service delivery would receive renewed attention.

The ICAN president also said the institute would champion sustainability and value creation by promoting ESG reporting, integrated reporting, sustainable finance, and responsible business practices.
