United States President Donald Trump on Sunday accused Iran of engaging in deceptive tactics and ridiculing the United States for nearly five decades, warning that Tehran's behavior would soon be curtailed. This came after reports emerged that Iran had delivered its reply to Washington's latest peace initiative.
Trump's Warning on Truth Social
Although Trump did not specifically address the details of Iran's reported response, he issued a stern caution on his Truth Social platform, indicating a rise in hostile exchanges between the two nations. Trump wrote, “Iran has been playing games with the United States, and the rest of the World, for 47 years (DELAY, DELAY, DELAY!).”
He further alleged that Tehran had been “laughing at our now GREAT AGAIN Country” before adding, “They will be laughing no longer!” The president also criticized former President Barack Obama, claiming that Obama had been overly lenient toward Iran and had given the nation “a major and very powerful new lease on life.”
These remarks appeared to allude to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, which was signed in 2015 during the Obama administration.
Iran's Response to US Peace Proposal
Meanwhile, Iranian state media announced that Tehran had formally submitted its response to the U.S. peace proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict. According to Iranian state television, the response emphasized a halt to hostilities across all fronts, particularly in Lebanon, and highlighted the necessity of ensuring safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
The response came after Washington proposed an initial cessation of hostilities before proceeding to negotiations on more contentious matters, including Iran's nuclear program. A Pakistani official informed Reuters that Islamabad, which has been facilitating mediation, forwarded Iran's response to the United States.
As of now, Washington has not released an official statement detailing its reaction to Tehran's reply.
