AAC Sounds Alarm Over Alleged APC Electoral Manipulation Plans for 2027
The African Action Congress (AAC), the political party founded by activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, has issued a serious warning to Nigerian citizens regarding what it describes as alleged plans by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the upcoming 2027 general elections. In an exclusive interview conducted on Sunday, March 8, the party's National Publicity Secretary, Rex I. Elanu, revealed that the AAC possesses detailed knowledge of strategic maneuvers being deployed within Nigeria's political system and emphasized that the party is taking comprehensive preparatory measures in response.
Digital Preparedness and INEC Compliance
Elanu asserted that the AAC has already implemented significant measures to ensure full compliance with all requirements established by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The party spokesperson highlighted their longstanding commitment to digital operations, explaining that they have maintained a sophisticated digital system for managing membership and voter mobilization activities for an extended period.
"Considering that the AAC has a penchant for digital operations, we have always had our Voter's Register in place, with a real-time mechanism to update and organize the register digitally," Elanu stated during the interview. He further confirmed that the party is fully positioned to satisfy the initial stage of electoral requirements as outlined in INEC's official timetable, declaring, "So far, we are prepared to meet up with the first requirement on INEC's Timetable."
Allegations of Systemic Manipulation
The AAC spokesperson leveled serious accusations against the ruling party, claiming that Nigeria's political structure has been deliberately designed to favor the APC while systematically limiting the effectiveness of opposition political organizations. "AAC understands the desperation of our ruling class (the APC led Government) to control and manipulate the electoral process," Elanu asserted, suggesting this manipulation extends to legislative processes.
He argued that this bias becomes evident when examining how lawmakers have addressed concerns raised by Nigerian citizens during debates over provisions within the electoral bill. "So we understand that the system wasn't designed to entertain the readiness of political participants outside the misruling APC," Elanu concluded, painting a picture of an electoral environment deliberately stacked against opposition parties.
Criticism of Revised Electoral Provisions
The AAC also launched a pointed critique of recently revised electoral provisions, arguing that these changes were structured in a manner that could significantly weaken transparency and limit genuine political competition. Elanu stated that the amendments could create dangerous ambiguity within electoral law while simultaneously reducing the time available for political parties to properly organize and conduct effective campaigns.
"We reiterate that the revised electoral provisions were deliberately designed in an anti-people's fashion," the AAC spokesperson declared, suggesting intentional design flaws in the electoral framework. Despite these concerns, the party maintains its commitment to continuing preparations for the electoral process while simultaneously encouraging Nigerian citizens to remain vigilant about developments within the country's political landscape.
Call for Political Consciousness and Mobilization
Despite its strong criticisms of the current political system, the AAC emphasized its ongoing commitment to mobilizing Nigerian citizens to demand greater political accountability and participate more actively in democratic processes. Elanu explained that the party's ideology and political strategy remain firmly focused on encouraging citizens to pursue what he described as genuine political emancipation.
"This is why as a socialist-driven revolutionary Party, we have never stopped mobilizing Nigerians to become conscious and ready enough for their political emancipation, whether by the ballot or at the barricades," he stated. The AAC spokesperson confirmed that the party has complied with all necessary regulatory requirements to date and has not encountered any significant obstacles in meeting its obligations, noting, "So far, we are not lacking behind on any of the processes required of us."
The AAC's warning comes amid growing political tensions as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, with multiple opposition parties already beginning to position themselves for what promises to be a highly contested electoral cycle. The party's allegations of potential manipulation by the ruling APC add another layer of complexity to an already charged political atmosphere, raising important questions about electoral integrity and fairness in Nigeria's democratic process.
