ADC Sets Sights on Borno Governorship in 2027, Decries Rising Insecurity

The opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared its intention to contest the governorship elections in Borno state in 2027, aiming to address what it describes as prolonged insecurity affecting lives and property. The party attributes the resurgence of Boko Haram terrorism and other security challenges to what it calls the incompetence of the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, both at the state and national levels.

Party Chairman Outlines Vision for Change

Honourable Kolo Bukar, the ADC State Chairman and a former member of the Borno State House of Assembly, made these vows on Sunday in Maiduguri after inaugurating the party's executive members. He emphasized that despite the party's current weaknesses and challenges, which are widely recognized, the ADC is poised to overcome them and achieve victory in the 2027 general elections. Bukar stated, "Despite the weakness of the opposition in the state before, the constitution of the ADC executive and my emergence as Chairman, we are going to change the political tide at the 2027 general polls."

Criticism of Ruling Party and Security Failures

Bukar criticized the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) for what he termed a complete failure in governance since 2015, leading to insecurity, poverty, unemployment, and numerous other challenges in Borno and across Nigeria. He noted that the ADC is shocked by the resurgence of attacks in parts of the state, viewing it as a direct result of governance failures at both the central and sub-national levels. "The ruling party is a complete failure. They have failed this country, they have failed Borno state," he declared.

ADC's Strategy and Promises to the People

Outlining the party's strategy, Bukar revealed that the ADC has a deep understanding of the political terrains, constituents, topography, and critical needs across all 27 Local Government Areas in Borno. He asserted, "Our party knows the people and we know how to unseat the ruling APC in Borno state." The ADC promises to bring succor, good governance, and significant changes to the state, with a comprehensive policy aimed at mitigating insecurity both locally and nationally.

Support from Party Leaders

In his remarks, Alhaji Kashim Imam Ibrahim, a leader of the ADC, emphasized that the party's priority extends beyond merely taking over power. He stated that the ADC aims to wipe away the tears of the poor masses in Borno and Nigeria, who have suffered from what he described as the brunt of bad governance under the APC since 2015. This sentiment underscores the party's commitment to addressing broader socio-economic issues alongside security concerns.

The ADC's announcement comes as part of its broader political mobilization efforts, with the party positioning itself as a viable alternative to address the pressing issues of insecurity and governance in Borno state and beyond.
