ADC Raises N230m in Imo for 2027 Elections, Moghalu Warns on Tinubu
ADC raises N230m at Imo summit for 2027 polls

In a significant financial push ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Imo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has mobilized a substantial sum of N230 million. The funds were raised during the party's inaugural stakeholders' summit held at its state secretariat in Owerri.

Political Heavyweights Rally Behind ADC in Imo

The high-profile event was chaired by a former governor of Imo State, Achike Udenwa, who led the state from 1999 to 2007. It attracted a powerful gathering of political and business leaders. The immediate past governor of the state, Emeka Ihedioha, was a prominent attendee, alongside the state party chairman, Professor James Okoroma, and the publicity secretary, MacDonald Amadi.

The summit also drew captains of industry, academics, professionals, and clerics, signaling a broad-based support structure for the party in the state. In his address, Udenwa charged members to embrace peace, unity, and discipline, describing collective responsibility as an indispensable tool for securing electoral victory.

He expressed strong confidence in the ADC's prospects at both the state and national levels, citing the caliber of committed Nigerians joining its ranks. Udenwa declared that with proper cohesion and strategic organization, the party is positioned to triumph over the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

A Call for Resources and Relentless Commitment

Adding his voice, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, urged ADC members to intensify their efforts towards building a winning political machine. He made a direct appeal to party leaders and stakeholders to make meaningful financial contributions, stressing that adequate resources are critical for effective political mobilization and ultimate success at the polls.

Ihedioha further called on the business community and Imo indigenes living abroad to rally around the ADC. He noted that their financial and moral support would be essential in overcoming the political and structural challenges the party is likely to face.

Moghalu's Reality Check on the Opposition's Task

In a related development, a former chieftain of the APC and Labour Party governorship candidate in the recent Anambra election, George Moghalu, has issued a stark warning. He stated that dislodging President Bola Tinubu and the APC from power will not be an easy task for opposition parties.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Moghalu pointed out that opposition parties currently lack the necessary cohesion to successfully challenge an incumbent government. He emphasized that the fragmentation within their ranks makes a victory unlikely.

Drawing from history, Moghalu, a founding member of the APC, recalled that removing an incumbent administration requires unity of purpose, sacrifice, and collective resolve. He referenced how the APC itself was formed through a merger of several opposition parties to defeat the then-dominant Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015.

This fundraising milestone for the ADC in Imo, coupled with Moghalu's cautionary note, sets the stage for the intense political maneuvering expected as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 elections.
