ADC Suspends Ogun State Chairman After Unanimous Vote of No Confidence

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State has taken decisive action by suspending its state chairman, Otunba Dr. Femi Soluade. This move came after the party's State Executive Committee unanimously passed a vote of no confidence in him during a meeting held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at the party secretariat in Abeokuta.

Allegations of Disruptive Conduct Lead to Suspension

According to a statement issued by the ADC Publicity Secretary, Olumide Onabajo, Soluade is suspended from office pending the outcome of investigations into serious allegations. The primary accusation involves his alleged involvement in leading armed men to disrupt the governorship declaration event of Jimi Lawal. This event took place on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the Intercontinental Hotel in Ibara, Abeokuta.

Onabajo emphasized that such conduct, if proven, represents a severe breach of party discipline and poses a threat to public peace and safety. He stated, "Such unruly conduct, if established after due investigation, is not only unbecoming of a party leader but also constitutes a serious breach of party discipline and a threat to public peace and safety."

Appointment of Acting Chairman and Investigation Process

In response to the suspension, the ADC has appointed Prince Adedeji Abiodun, the deputy chairman, as the acting state chairman. Abiodun will lead the party until the investigation is concluded and further decisions are made by the party's leadership. The State Executive Committee, which included all present local government chairmen and members, duly signed the vote of no confidence, underscoring the collective nature of this decision.

To ensure a thorough inquiry, the party has established a disciplinary panel tasked with investigating the allegations against Soluade. This panel is required to submit its report to the State Executive Committee within 14 days, highlighting the urgency and seriousness with which the party is treating this matter.

Context of Previous ADC Suspensions

This incident is not isolated within the ADC. Recently, the party suspended its South-South National Vice Chairman, Dr. Usani Usani, over allegations of anti-party activities and constitutional violations. Additionally, the Cross River state chapter criticized the appointment of Ms. Jackie Wayas, citing poor engagement and lack of consultation.

In a related development, the ADC in Nasarawa State suspended its chairman, Godwin Alaku Williams, for similar reasons, including failing to recognize national leadership and blocking coalition members. However, Alaku has rejected the suspension, claiming it is invalid and that he remains in office until his tenure expires.

These events reflect ongoing internal challenges within the ADC, as the party strives to maintain discipline and cohesion among its members. The suspension in Ogun State marks a significant step in addressing conduct deemed detrimental to the party's integrity and public image.
