The incumbent Governor of Osun State and Accord Party candidate, Ademola Adeleke, holds an early lead in the governorship election as results from 15 of the 30 local government areas (LGAs) have been collated. According to the figures announced so far, Mr Adeleke has secured 283,235 votes, while his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has polled 216,003 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, trails in third place with 11,196 votes.
Current Vote Tally and Lead Margin
Based on the collated results, Mr Adeleke leads Mr Oyebamiji by 67,232 votes. The results from the remaining 15 LGAs are still outstanding, meaning the final outcome remains uncertain. The collation process is ongoing, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) expected to announce the final statewide result after all 30 LGAs have been presented and verified.
The 15 LGAs whose results have been declared so far include Aiyedire, Atakunmosa East, Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, Ejigbo, Ife Central, Ife South, Irepodun, Isokan, Iwo, Obokun, Ola-Oluwa, Oriade, and Osogbo.
Strong Performances in Key LGAs
Mr Adeleke recorded particularly strong performances in his home base of Ede North, where he scored 35,427 votes against Mr Oyebamiji’s 10,283. He also won Ede South with 21,188 votes, Iwo with 27,085 votes, and Osogbo with 36,480 votes. Premium Times separately reported Mr Adeleke’s victory in Osogbo, where he defeated Mr Oyebamiji by 6,006 votes.
In contrast, Mr Oyebamiji secured victories in some of the LGAs already declared, including Obokun, where he defeated Mr Adeleke by 4,097 votes. These wins indicate a competitive race, with both candidates showing strength in different parts of the state.
Provisional Results and Next Steps
The results are provisional, and collation is continuing across the state. The final collation and announcement of LGA results commenced at about 2:35 a.m. in Osogbo. INEC is expected to announce the final statewide result after all 30 LGAs have been presented and verified.
As the collation progresses, the outcome of the governorship election will depend on the results from the remaining 15 LGAs. The commission’s announcement will determine whether Mr Adeleke secures a second term or if Mr Oyebamiji overtakes him.
