PDP Leader Warns Against Inflammatory Election Language in Oyo State
Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, has issued a stern condemnation of recent comments attributed to former First Lady Florence Ajimobi, who reportedly characterized the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial election as a "war." Ajadi described such rhetoric as reckless and potentially destabilizing for the state's political climate.
Ajimobi's Controversial Statement Sparks Outrage
According to multiple media reports published on Saturday, January 24, 2026, Mrs. Ajimobi was quoted as declaring, "We are going to war in 2027 Oyo Guber; we have the federal backing and the money." This statement has drawn significant criticism from political observers and opposition figures alike.
In a formal response released through his media office on Sunday, January 25, Ajadi labeled the remarks as inflammatory and entirely inappropriate for a political figure of her stature. "Any statement that portrays an election as a war is dangerous," Ajadi asserted. "Politics should not be militarised. If anybody loses their life in the course of the 2027 election as a result of such utterances, the authors of these threats must be held morally and legally responsible."
Call for Democratic Principles Over Intimidation
Ajadi expressed particular disappointment that such language would originate from the wife of a former governor who once led Oyo State. He emphasized that democratic processes should be founded on substantive issues, proven performance, and genuine public service rather than threats or coercion.
"It is unexpected coming from someone whose husband had the privilege of serving the good people of Oyo State," he noted. "Elections are meant to be contests of vision and credibility, not threats of violence."
Security Agencies Urged to Monitor Situation
The PDP chieftain called upon security organizations, civil society groups, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to closely monitor these developments. He warned that early indicators of political hostility should not be disregarded, as they could escalate into more serious conflicts.
"Oyo State people should take note of this open declaration," Ajadi cautioned. "Any plan to terrorise voters or create fear ahead of 2027 must be resisted. Oyo is a peaceful state and must remain so."
Dismissal of Financial and Federal Advantages
Addressing Mrs. Ajimobi's claims of possessing federal support and substantial financial resources, Ajadi dismissed the notion that money or political connections could override the electorate's will. He argued that Nigerian voters are increasingly prioritizing competence and tangible results over monetary inducements.
"There are rumours that governors defecting to the ruling party are being induced with as much as ₦250 billion," Ajadi revealed. "Even if this is true, Nigerians are wiser now. Money and federal might cannot save a party that has failed the people."
Confident Prediction of PDP Victory in 2027
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Ajadi projected a decisive victory for the PDP across multiple levels of government. He expressed confidence that democratic values would ultimately prevail over intimidation tactics.
"By the grace of God and the will of the people, the PDP will reclaim leadership of Nigeria from the presidency down to the states in 2027," he declared. "Democracy will triumph over intimidation."
Appeal for Issue-Based Campaigning
Ajadi concluded by urging all political stakeholders to engage in constructive, issue-oriented campaigns and to avoid language that could incite tension or violence. He stressed that no political ambition justifies endangering human lives.
"Political actors across party lines must embrace issue-based campaigns and avoid statements capable of plunging the state into tension," he advised. "No political ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian."
