APC Chieftains Commend Voter Turnout in Osun Governorship Election
Some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have commended the large voter turnout in the ongoing Osun State governorship election. The chieftains, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilesa, Ibokun and Ilase-Ijesa, described the voter turnout as impressive.
Former Lawmaker Praises Peaceful Atmosphere
A former member of the House of Representatives, Babatunde Ayeni, commended the peaceful atmosphere in which the election was taking place, as well as the large voter turnout. Mr Ayeni, who spoke after casting his vote at Ward 10, Unit 13 in Ilesa West Local Government Area, also commended the federal government for providing an enabling environment for voters to exercise their franchise.
The former lawmaker, however, denied allegations of vote-buying, saying that the APC was popular and therefore had no reason to buy votes. He expressed optimism that the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, would emerge victorious.
Senator Urges More Voters to Participate
Similarly, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, commended the large voter turnout and urged more eligible voters to come out and cast their ballots. Mr Fadahunsi spoke after casting his vote at Unit 1, Ward 4, Ilase-Ijesa, in Obokun Local Government Area of the state.
He expressed satisfaction with the turnout at his polling unit, calling on more voters to come out and participate in the exercise.
Former Assembly Member Notes Peaceful Exercise
Also speaking, a former member of the state House of Assembly, Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, said that after casting his vote, the atmosphere was peaceful, with a large voter turnout.
The commendations come amid reports of low voter turnout in some other areas, as noted in a related report by Premium Times. The election continues as voters across the state exercise their franchise.
