APC Slams Kwankwasiyya Over Defamatory Court Allegations, Demands Immediate Retraction
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly rejected and condemned the position of the Kwankwasiyya faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), which accused the Kano State Government of influencing court proceedings. The APC described these claims as false, malicious, and legally indefensible, demanding an immediate retraction from the opposition group.
APC Issues 72-Hour Ultimatum and Threatens Legal Action
In a statement issued by APC spokesperson in Kano, Auwalu Soja Gwale, the party specifically denied allegations that the state government paid huge sums to influence proceedings at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja. The APC has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to NNPP factional spokesperson Ibrahim Karaye and the Kwankwasiyya faction to retract the allegation, tender a public apology, and desist from making similar claims. Failure to comply will result in legal action for defamation, as warned by the APC.
The statement emphasized that the Kano State Government has never interfered with judicial processes and urged the public to disregard what it called baseless accusations. According to the APC, this claim is part of a pattern of reckless rhetoric by elements within the NNPP whenever political outcomes do not favour them.
APC Urges Kwankwasiyya to Focus on Internal Disputes
The APC further urged the Kwankwasiyya faction to focus on resolving its internal leadership disputes, citing ongoing litigations involving factions linked to Boniface Aniebonam and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, rather than interfering in frivolous matters. The party stated that it is inappropriate for a party embroiled in internal crises to accuse the judiciary of corruption without any proof.
Reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law, the APC highlighted that both the opposition and ruling party have recently been embroiled in counter-accusations and a war of words over political differences since the realignment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Prior to the recent alleged defamatory comments, the Kwankwasiyya had accused the APC of orchestrating unrest during its political engagement in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, another allegation that the ruling party has refuted.
The APC's firm stance underscores the escalating tensions between political factions in Kano, with the party taking a hard line against what it perceives as defamatory and unsubstantiated attacks on its integrity and the judiciary's independence.
