APC Denies Involvement in Rogo Violence, Calls for Kwankwasiyya to Address Internal Tensions
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has firmly dismissed allegations made by the Kwankwasiyya Movement, asserting that the party was not responsible for a violent disruption at a political gathering in the Ruwan Bago area of Rogo community over the weekend. The Kwankwasiyya Movement had accused armed political thugs linked to the APC of storming the event, resulting in injuries to more than eleven individuals, including the NNPP chairman in Rogo Local Government, a former PDP National Assembly candidate, and several supporters. Additionally, they claimed that at least three vehicles and other property were vandalised during the incident.
Allegations and Response
The gathering was reportedly organised to formally receive prominent defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the NNPP, with security agencies notified in advance. In a swift response, APC Publicity Secretary in Kano, Hon. Auwalu Soja Gwale, described the allegations as "false, fabricated, and deliberately intended to tarnish the image of the ruling party." Gwale emphasised that the APC remains steadfastly committed to peaceful democratic engagement and has never sanctioned or encouraged violence against members of any political organisation.
Call for Internal Resolution
Gwale further urged the Kwankwasiyya Movement to focus on resolving internal tensions arising from defections and political realignments within its ranks, rather than blaming the APC for the incident. He highlighted that such internal issues should be addressed through dialogue and cooperation, not by shifting responsibility to external parties. The APC expressed strong support for a thorough and impartial investigation by relevant security agencies, stressing that anyone found culpable should face the full weight of the law, regardless of political affiliation.
Appeal for Peaceful Engagement
The party also called on all political actors in Kano State to avoid actions or statements that could escalate tensions, underlining that disagreements should be resolved peacefully through democratic means. This appeal aims to foster a more stable political environment and prevent further conflicts in the region. The APC reiterated its dedication to upholding law and order, urging all stakeholders to prioritise harmony and constructive political discourse.
