The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the polling unit of its National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, in Saturday's Osun State governorship election. At Polling Unit 003 in the Alagba area of Osogbo, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji polled 177 votes, while incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party received 60 votes.

Basiru and his wife, Abibat, cast their ballots at the unit. Other candidates also received votes: Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) got three votes, while the Action Alliance, Young Progressives Party, and Peoples Redemption Party each secured one vote.
The result gives Oyebamiji a commanding lead in that unit, reflecting the strong support for the APC in the area.
Basiru Commends INEC and Security Agencies
After voting, Basiru praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the timely deployment of personnel and election materials across the state. He noted that the sizeable voter turnout demonstrated citizens' commitment to democracy.
Basiru also lauded security forces for maintaining calm and order at polling centres, describing the process as peaceful and incident-free. He expressed confidence in the APC's ability to win the governorship seat.
Context of the Osun 2026 Election
The election pits Oyebamiji of the APC against Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform. The race is keenly contested, with both candidates vying for the state's top office.
Meanwhile, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi had earlier appealed for neutrality from INEC, security agencies, political parties, and traditional leaders ahead of the election. His call drew mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians expressing skepticism about the possibility of a free and fair election under the current APC-led federal government.
