The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has declared confidence in emerging victorious in the election after casting his ballot on Saturday, August 15. Oyebamiji voted at Ward 9, Polling Unit 011, in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area, where he addressed journalists on the conduct of the exercise.
Large Voter Turnout in Ikire
Oyebamiji praised the substantial turnout of voters in Ikire, interpreting it as a sign that the electorate was not intimidated ahead of the exercise. He noted the presence of INEC officials, voters, and security operatives, saying, "INEC officials are here, the voters are here, security operatives are here. I want to commend the large turnout of voters in Ikire. It shows that people are not intimidated, and generally, things are going on fine across the state."
The candidate's remarks reflect a positive assessment of the electoral atmosphere in his local area, suggesting that the democratic process is proceeding without major disruptions so far.
Call for Proactive Security
Despite his upbeat outlook, Oyebamiji acknowledged concerns about potential violence in Ikire and urged law enforcement to adopt a firm and preventive stance throughout the voting process. He stated, "I want to admonish the police and other security operatives to be proactive to ensure security for our people and all the voters, and I believe the election would be credible."
His appeal underscores the importance of maintaining order during the election, especially in areas where tensions may run high.
Arrest of a Politician
Oyebamiji also addressed reports of a politician being arrested during the exercise. Without naming the individual, he expressed expectation that the police would carry out their duties professionally. He added, "I want to be sure that the police would do their job. I am confident that I'd win this election at the end of the day."
