Atiku Camp Denies Fayose's Secret 2027 Election Claims

Atiku's Camp Rejects Fayose's Allegations of Secret 2027 Election Talks

The political camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a firm denial in response to claims made by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose. Fayose alleged that Atiku engaged in secret negotiations with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde regarding the 2027 presidential elections.

Fayose's Claims Dismissed as Fabrication

In a statement released on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Phrank Shaibu, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to Atiku Abubakar, labeled Fayose's assertions as a "reckless and malicious fabrication." Shaibu emphasized that the allegations were designed to mislead the public and provoke unnecessary political discourse.

He categorically denied any discussions about vice-presidential tickets, financial contributions, zoning arrangements, or delegate guarantees. Shaibu also refuted claims of a clandestine meeting in Dubai, describing the entire narrative as "insider fiction" rather than credible information.

Atiku's Political Engagements Described as Principled

Atiku's camp clarified that the former vice president's political activities are broad-based and principled, with a national scope. They asserted that his engagements are not narrow or transactional, contrasting sharply with the allegations made by Fayose.

The statement further criticized individuals attempting to gain relevance by inventing stories around prominent national figures. It highlighted that while falsehoods may gain temporary attention, they ultimately collapse under the weight of truth.

Background on Recent Political Meetings

Recall that Atiku Abubakar and Governor Seyi Makinde recently visited former military leader General Ibrahim Babangida in Minna, Niger State. The purpose of this meeting was to seek support for the 2027 elections and discuss strategies to strengthen the African Democratic Congress (ADC) party structures nationwide.

Additionally, Atiku's team addressed speculation surrounding an encounter with APC Senator Abdulaziz Yari at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. They clarified that this was a coincidental meeting and not part of any private political discussions.

Atiku Abubakar continues to focus on mobilizing support across Nigeria as the 2027 elections approach, maintaining a stance of transparency and integrity in his political endeavors.
