Atiku Presents Economic, Security Agenda at ADC Screening

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has appeared before the Presidential Screening Panel of the African Democratic Party (ADC) to submit his credentials for verification as part of the party's presidential nomination process. In addition to the routine verification, he also presented his comprehensive economic rescue blueprint and security agenda aimed at alleviating the country's economic distress and escalating insecurity.

Atiku's Vision for Economic Recovery

Speaking after the screening exercise, Atiku described the session as more than a mere verification of credentials, calling it an opportunity to outline practical solutions to Nigeria's worsening economic hardship and growing insecurity. In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, and released on 20th May 2026, the former Vice President warned that Nigeria could no longer afford economic stagnation, rising unemployment, policy inconsistency, and institutional decline.

He stated that his economic agenda would focus on job creation, private sector growth, fiscal discipline, stable macroeconomic policies, and restoring investor confidence in the Nigerian economy. Atiku emphasized the need for tested leadership and a clear vision to steer the country away from its current challenges.

Addressing Nigeria's Security Crisis

Atiku also expressed deep concern over the country's deteriorating security situation, citing recurring massacres, kidnappings, and terror attacks across several parts of the country. According to him, his proposed security strategy would prioritize intelligence-driven operations, improved inter-agency collaboration, decentralized security structures, and decisive action against criminal elements.

He stressed that Nigeria requires a comprehensive approach to security that involves all stakeholders and leverages modern technology to combat threats effectively.

A Call for Tested Leadership

“At this defining moment in our national life, Nigeria does not need experiments. It needs tested leadership, clarity of vision, and the courage to make difficult but necessary decisions in the national interest,” Atiku said. He reaffirmed his commitment to building what he described as a secure, united, and prosperous Nigeria where citizens can live peacefully and pursue opportunities with dignity.

The former Vice President's appearance at the ADC screening marks a significant step in his political journey, as he seeks to return to the highest office in the land with a robust plan to address Nigeria's most pressing issues.
