Former APC Chairman Bolarinwa Announces Kwara Governorship Bid for 2027
Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, the former chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, has formally declared his intention to contest for the office of governor in the upcoming 2027 general elections. In a statement released on Thursday, April 16, Bolarinwa presented himself as a seasoned grassroots politician with the necessary experience, capacity, and unifying influence to lead Kwara State into its next developmental phase.
Driven by Commitment to Public Service
Bolarinwa addressed APC elders, stakeholders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders across Kwara State, explaining that his decision is rooted in a deep commitment to public service. He emphasized his determination to consolidate and advance the gains of progressive governance in the state, stating that his aspiration is not fueled by personal ambition but by a lifelong record of service spanning grassroots, legislative, and national institutions.
Extensive Political and Administrative Background
Bolarinwa's political journey includes serving as a councillor and two-term chairman of the Lagos Mainland local government area, as well as a two-term member of the House of Representatives. In 2018, he was elected chairman of the APC in Kwara State, leading the party through the historic 2019 general elections. Under his leadership, the "O To Ge" movement reshaped Kwara's political landscape, delivering a clean sweep for the APC and ending years of PDP dominance.
"This political journey has equipped me with a rare blend of administrative experience and legislative insight, enabling me to understand governance both at the community level and within the broader architecture of national policy," Bolarinwa said.
National Exposure and Academic Credentials
Beyond partisan politics, Bolarinwa served as chairman of the Governing Board of the National Broadcasting Commission, which he noted has broadened his perspective on governance and sharpened his ability to manage complex institutions. Academically, he holds a PhD in International Relations, along with degrees from the University of Ilorin and the University of Lagos.
"This background has equipped me with the analytical tools and global outlook necessary to confront the socio-economic and governance challenges facing Kwara state today," the APC gubernatorial aspirant added.
APC Stakeholders Endorse Bolarinwa
In response to his declaration, Kwara APC chairman Prince Sunday Fagbemi praised Bolarinwa's contributions to the party's success, particularly his role in the "O To Ge" movement. Fagbemi affirmed that Bolarinwa is eminently qualified to succeed the current administration and sustain democratic gains, pledging the party's commitment to a transparent and credible candidate selection process for 2027.
Additionally, APC stakeholders in Kwara North endorsed Bolarinwa on Thursday, citing his leadership record, competence, and compassion as key credentials. Speaking at a news conference in Ilorin, former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly Benjamin Yissa-Ezekiel described Bolarinwa as "competent, compassionate and capable, with a proven track record in leadership."

Bolarinwa expressed confidence that with stakeholder support and prayers, the APC would not only consolidate its achievements in Kwara State but also secure another decisive mandate in 2027.
