Ekiti 2026: Campaign Council Sets Ambitious Target of 500,000 Votes for Governor Oyebanji

The 57-member campaign council established for the re-election bid of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has made a bold declaration to secure 500,000 votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming June 2026 governorship election. This ambitious target underscores the council's confidence in the party's strength and the governor's performance in office.

Confidence Amidst Party Primaries

In a recent statement, the campaign council moved to allay growing fears that the outcome of the APC's primary elections, which will select candidates for the state and National Assembly positions, could negatively influence the gubernatorial race. The council emphasized that these internal party processes are separate and will not detract from the main election's prospects.

Director-General of the campaign team, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, who represents the Ekiti North Senatorial District, addressed journalists in Ado-Ekiti. Reflecting on previous election results, Fasuyi expressed strong optimism that the 2026 gubernatorial contest will yield a different outcome, thanks to the party's strategic game plan and cohesive efforts.

Governor Oyebanji's Outreach to Muslim Community

Meanwhile, Governor Oyebanji has extended commendations to the Muslim community in Ekiti State for their unwavering support of his administration and their dedication to fostering peaceful coexistence with followers of other religious faiths. He highlighted that this support has been a crucial driver of development across the state.

Oyebanji articulated that peaceful coexistence among citizens serves as a vital foundation upon which genuine and sustainable development is constructed. His remarks were delivered during an Iftar gathering, marking the breaking of fast, with Muslim leaders from all 16 local government areas of the state. The event took place at the Jibowu Hall within the Government House in Ado-Ekiti.

Call for Continued Support and Recognition of Achievements

During the Iftar, the governor also called for ongoing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the various achievements of his administration have been made possible through the backing received from the President. Oyebanji stressed that Tinubu has faithfully fulfilled all promises made to Ekiti State during the 2022 electioneering campaigns, reinforcing the importance of national leadership in state-level progress.

Religious Leaders Emphasize Moral Conduct and Unity

In a related development, Sheikh Abdullahi Abdulmutali, the Imam of Ansar-Ud-Deen in Ado-Ekiti, presented an Iftar lecture urging Muslims to lead their lives in the fear of God by consistently doing what is right. He emphasized that such conduct is the only path to receiving heavenly rewards, promoting a message of ethical living and spiritual devotion.

Additionally, Sheikh Jamiu Kewulere Bello, the President-General of the League of Imams and Alfas for South-West, Edo, and Delta states, offered prayers for Ekiti State, Governor Oyebanji, and President Tinubu. He praised both leaders for cultivating an atmosphere of peace and shared prosperity, highlighting the positive impact of their collaborative governance on regional harmony and development.
