Galadima Warns APC Could Face 2027 Electoral Backlash

NNPP's Galadima Issues Stern Warning to APC Ahead of 2027 Elections

A prominent leader within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has issued a stark warning to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting that the party could face a severe electoral backlash in the 2027 general elections if prevailing economic difficulties and security challenges persist unabated.

Public Frustration and Historical Precedents

Speaking during an appearance on the Politics Today program on Thursday night, February 26, Galadima delivered a pointed critique of the APC's governance record. He firmly rejected assertions that living standards have improved under the current administration, emphasizing instead the deepening sense of public discontent.

"Things start small," Galadima cautioned. "You don't know how they can blossom and become something else. They shouldn't presume that Nigerians are gullible and cannot react." He argued that authorities risk underestimating the level of citizen frustration, noting allegations that some individuals have faced arrest merely for expressing critical opinions publicly.

Galadima suggested that attempts to suppress dissent could paradoxically fuel greater resentment rather than pacify the populace. To illustrate his point, he drew a direct comparison to the 2015 general election, where voters demonstrated a clear willingness to oust an incumbent government over security failures.

Drawing Parallels to the Jonathan Administration

The NNPP chieftain specifically referenced the electoral defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan, whose administration was voted out of power amid escalating security concerns, particularly in the North-East region. "If Nigerians could remove Jonathan's government over insecurity, what would happen now?" Galadima posed rhetorically. He implied that the APC could encounter a similar political fate in 2027 if current socio-economic and security conditions do not see significant improvement.

Critique of Agricultural and Economic Policies

Beyond security, Galadima launched a sharp criticism of the Federal Government's handling of the agricultural sector. He accused the administration of undermining domestic farming through import-friendly policies and soaring production costs. According to his statements, the price of fertiliser has reportedly skyrocketed to between N60,000 and N70,000 per bag, a cost he described as crippling for the average farmer.

He warned that reduced farming activity across various parts of the country signals a deeper crisis for national food production. Galadima expressed concern that policies encouraging grain importation could severely weaken local agricultural producers and jeopardize investments in critical infrastructure, such as the rice mills established in recent years.

"How can you disenfranchise 75 per cent of your population for the interest of a few?" he questioned, calling for an urgent and comprehensive review of both agricultural and broader economic policies to address these pressing issues.

Galadima's remarks underscore growing political tensions as the nation looks ahead to the 2027 electoral cycle, with opposition figures positioning themselves to capitalize on perceived governmental shortcomings.
