Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has stated that he is not losing sleep over the activities of the opposition ahead of the 2027 governorship election, insisting that only God determines who becomes the next governor of Kano State. Speaking with confidence about emerging victorious in what is expected to be one of Nigeria's most closely watched polls, Governor Yusuf urged the 2026 Kano pilgrims to renew their voter cards to secure his second term in office.
Governor Addresses Pilgrims in Makkah
Governor Yusuf made these remarks while addressing state pilgrims and Hajj officials in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that no individual or group has the power to install or prevent anyone from attaining leadership. Citing scripture, he reminded that while some believe certain figures influence who becomes a leader, ultimate authority belongs to God, who grants and withdraws power according to His will.
“As believers, we must understand that leadership comes from Allah. He gives power to whom He wills and takes it away when He wills,” the Governor stated. He further noted that leadership is a divine trust and that Allah alone decides who occupies positions of authority and when.
Submission to Divine Will
Governor Yusuf said he has submitted himself completely to the will of Allah regarding future political developments, expressing confidence that God’s decree would always prevail. He urged pilgrims to ensure they possess valid voter cards upon their return to Nigeria, calling on those whose cards require renewal to do so promptly before the expiration of the registration and renewal period.
The Governor also urged pilgrims to devote the remaining period of their stay in the holy land to intensive prayers for peace and tranquility in Kano State and Nigeria in general. He appealed for patience regarding the late inbound flight schedule, urging calm and perseverance as inherent in the religious tenet.
Return Flight Details
Earlier, the Director General of the Kano State Pilgrims’ Welfare Board, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle, announced that the return flights for Kano pilgrims would commence on June 24. He assured that the board would facilitate the smooth conveyance of over 3,600 pilgrims and their baggage back to Nigeria, adding that the inbound airlift would not last more than four days.
