Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, a presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has announced that he will not attend the party's presidential primary election results announcement, citing concerns over alleged irregularities in the exercise.
Allegations of Vote Manipulation
Hayatu-Deen stated that reports reaching him from across the country indicated widespread vote manipulation during the primary process. He also claimed to have personally witnessed some of the alleged irregularities.
“I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC Presidential Election Results today. I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed, and will therefore be taking advice on my next steps,” he said via his X handle.
Contested Primary Contest
His position comes amid the ongoing ADC presidential primary contest involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and Hayatu-Deen. The party had scheduled the announcement of results for later in the day, but Hayatu-Deen's boycott raises questions about the credibility of the process.
The ADC has yet to officially respond to the allegations, but observers note that the internal dispute could impact the party's chances in the upcoming general elections.
