APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe has issued a stern warning to Igbo traders at the Ladipo market in Lagos, stating that if they attempt to attack him again, they will face severe consequences and may lose access to the market for up to one year. Igbokwe made the remarks on June 5 after visiting the market to purchase spare parts for his car.
Incident at Ladipo Market
During his visit, Igbokwe was reportedly booed and taunted by traders, mostly of Igbo extraction. Videos circulating on social media showed the traders shouting and calling him unprintable names. Some reports claimed he was physically assaulted, but Igbokwe has denied these allegations.
Igbokwe's Response
In a video shared online, Igbokwe clarified that he was not beaten, contrary to social media reports. He warned that if the traders had attacked him, the market could be shut down for a year, emphasizing that Lagos is not the South East. He stated, "If they try it again, they will collect and they will collect big. They may not see that market in the next one year."
Igbokwe's comments have sparked mixed reactions, with some supporting his stance and others criticizing his threat. The incident highlights ongoing tensions between political figures and traders in Lagos markets.
