Kano South Leaders Rally Behind Rurum for Deputy Governor Slot
The Kano South Concerned Elders Forum has made a formal appeal to Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf, urging him to consider Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum for the position of Deputy Governor of Kano State. This appeal is rooted in a call for equity and inclusive governance, with the elders emphasizing that Rurum's appointment would not only bolster the current administration but also rectify what they describe as a longstanding political imbalance against the Kano South zone in the state's leadership framework.
Addressing Decades of Political Imbalance
The elders' appeal follows the nomination of Rurum, alongside Engineer Rabiu Suleiman Bichi and Murtala Sule Garo, by a legacy group within the All Progressives Congress for the governor's final consideration. In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Chairman of the forum, Senator Masaud El-Jibril Doguwa, the group highlighted that Rurum's nomination marks a pivotal moment in the political trajectory of Kano South. "For the first time in over 30 years, someone from the zone has come close to being nominated as Deputy Governor," the statement read. It further explained that previous attempts by capable politicians from the area to secure this position had not materialized, underscoring the historical neglect faced by the region.
The elders pointed out that Kano South, comprising 16 local government areas, remains one of the largest senatorial zones in Nigeria. Despite its size and population, the zone has persistently yearned for fair representation at the highest echelons of governance. They argued that appointing Rurum would address this gap and promote a more balanced political landscape in Kano State.

In their statement, the elders commended Governor Yusuf for what they termed his "sense of fairness, justice, and inclusiveness."
