Kwankwaso Emphasizes Vigilance and Mobilization for 2027 Elections
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has called on members of the Kwankwasiyya movement to prepare for potential challenges in the lead-up to the next general elections. He urged supporters to stay vigilant and committed to safeguarding their votes to ensure electoral integrity.
Defection to ADC and Key Messages
Kwankwaso made these remarks on Monday in Kano while formally receiving his membership card for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at his Miller Road residence, following his defection from the NNPP. Addressing loyalists in Hausa, the former Kano State governor encouraged them to complete their party registration and actively participate in the ongoing voter registration process. He stressed the critical importance of political mobilization and readiness for all eventualities during the electoral cycle, including protecting votes at polling units in compliance with electoral laws.
Kwankwaso further advised followers to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards once registration opens, highlighting voter participation as essential for achieving meaningful political change. He stated, "And let me also remind you that by first April, in the next couple of days, INEC will start registration for voter cards. You must make sure you register not only registration of party, you have to also with INEC to complete the process. You must prepare for the worst case scenario to defend your votes."
ADC Leadership Welcomes Kwankwaso
Welcoming Kwankwaso into the party, ADC National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark, described the development as a significant boost for opposition politics and democratic consolidation in Nigeria. He noted that Kwankwaso's entry signals a broader movement aimed at strengthening democratic participation and providing credible political alternatives for Nigerians.
Mark alleged that recent political developments pose risks to Nigeria's multiparty democracy, warning against attempts to weaken opposition voices. He explained that the ADC intends to serve as a platform for inclusive political engagement and national renewal through lawful democratic processes. Mark declared, "The African Democratic Congress now stands as the rallying point of a new national movement, a movement of inclusion, competence, integrity, and progress. A movement not powered by coercion, but by ordinary Nigerians determined to reclaim their country."
