Kwara North Unites for 2027 Governorship Bid, Seeks Historic Power Shift
Kwara North Aspirants Unite for 2027 Governorship Bid

In a significant political development, aspirants and key stakeholders from Kwara North Senatorial District have forged a united front with a clear mission: to ensure their zone produces the next governor of Kwara State in the 2027 elections.

A Historic Meeting for a Common Goal

The crucial meeting, held in Ilorin, the state capital, on December 6, 2025, brought together political office seekers with the sole agenda of crafting a winning strategy. At the end of their deliberations, the group issued a communiqué where they expressed gratitude to the traditional rulers from both Kwara South and Kwara Central senatorial zones. The leaders from these zones were commended for their reported concession of the 2027 governorship slot to Kwara North.

The communiqué, which was read by Dr. Toyin Ayinla, stressed that personal ambitions must now take a back seat to the collective destiny of the region. All attendees reaffirmed their total commitment to what they termed the "Kwara North 2027 project," describing it as a historic duty and a moral imperative for equity, fairness, and justice within the state's political landscape.

A Pact of Unity and Cooperation

The aspirants made a pivotal agreement to foster a spirit of cooperation that will extend before, during, and after the 2027 polls. They resolved to maintain open channels of dialogue, actively discourage internal conflicts, and support any framework that would strengthen the zone's political bargaining power and unity of purpose.

Princess Nnajoa Felicia Tsado, the only female aspirant present, hailed the gathering as unprecedented. "I am impressed today to be counted among the true daughters with genuine interest and love for Kwara North," she stated. She noted that such a meeting was long overdue, referencing past mockery about the zone's lack of unity. "But today," she declared, "the barrier has been broken."

Leadership Voices Echo the Call for Solidarity

A serving senator, Sadiq Umar, emphasized that the journey to the Ahmadu Bello Government House, the seat of power in Kwara State, can only be successful if unity prevails. He urged all contenders to speak with one voice. "Getting power is more complex than imagined but if we come together, it will be easier," Senator Umar advised. "There is no basis for arguments or fights."

Adding his voice, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi, appreciated the state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, for encouraging the zone to contest the governorship in 2027. "This is a good initiative. I thank the governor and many support groups working for power shift to Kwara North," Danladi said. He concluded with a prayer for divine guidance towards achieving this unified aspiration.

The communiqué further outlined plans for sustained engagement with royal institutions, elders, youth and women's groups, and community associations. This grassroots mobilization aims to deepen acceptance, reinforce unity, and solidify the zone's collective push towards clinching the governorship ticket and ultimately winning the 2027 election.
