Kwara Entrepreneurs Pledge ₦100 Million for Senator Mustapha's APC Gubernatorial Bid
In a significant political development, a coalition of young entrepreneurs and SME leaders in Kwara state, operating under the banner of Corporate Kwara, has pledged a substantial sum of ₦100 million to purchase the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial nomination form for Senator Saliu Mustapha. This commitment was made during a courtesy visit to the senator's office in Ilorin, the state capital, on Sunday, April 5, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Unconditional Support for a Pro-Business Candidate
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mallam Abdulmajeed Olayinka Idilobe, the coordinator of Corporate Kwara and CEO of BettaJollof Nigeria Limited, emphasized that the pledge is a voluntary gesture of goodwill with no strings attached. Idilobe highlighted Senator Mustapha's longstanding dedication to the business community in Kwara state as the primary motivation for their support.
"We are deeply impressed by Senator Mustapha's unwavering commitment to fostering the growth and development of young entrepreneurs in our state," Idilobe stated. "Even prior to his senatorial tenure, he consistently backed the business sector through the Kwara State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mining and Agriculture. His ongoing financial and moral support for SMEs and business incubators sets him apart from other gubernatorial aspirants."
Senator Mustapha's Response and Political Context
In response, Senator Saliu Mustapha, represented by his executive assistant, Barr. Alabi Abdulkareem, expressed profound gratitude for the pledge. Abdulkareem described Mustapha as a seasoned entrepreneur whose business background informs his pro-enterprise leadership style. He assured the group of the senator's continued advocacy for entrepreneurs, both in and out of public office, and urged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's business-friendly policies.
Senator Mustapha, who represents Kwara Central and chairs the Senate Committee on Agricultural Production Services and Rural Development, is emerging as a leading contender for the state's governorship in 2027. This development occurs amidst internal party dynamics, as APC members in Kwara recently protested alleged candidate imposition during party congresses, underscoring the competitive political landscape.
Implications for Kwara's Political Future
The ₦100 million pledge not only bolsters Mustapha's campaign but also signals strong grassroots support from the business community. It reflects a growing trend where economic stakeholders actively engage in political processes to champion candidates with proven pro-business records. As the 2027 elections approach, such endorsements could play a pivotal role in shaping Kwara's political trajectory and economic policies.
