Lagos APC Dismisses ADC Coalition Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a scathing critique of opposition figures aligning under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), asserting that Nigeria has definitively moved beyond what it characterizes as the "dark, wasteful, and inglorious era" of past leadership failures. In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, the party's spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, declared that Nigerians should not be deceived by what he labeled the re-emergence of familiar political actors attempting to present themselves as agents of reform in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.

Criticism of Opposition Figures

According to the Lagos APC, many of the individuals now championing the opposition coalition are long-time beneficiaries of political power who previously occupied top public offices, including governors, ministers, senators, vice presidents, and party leaders. The party argued that these figures had ample opportunities to shape the country positively during their tenures but failed to deliver meaningful progress when they held authority. "It is the height of political hypocrisy for those who helped create yesterday's failures to now present themselves as the cure for the very disease they incubated," the statement emphasized, highlighting a perceived contradiction in the opposition's narrative.

Questioning Democratic Credentials

The ruling party in Lagos further described the ADC coalition as a gathering of "displaced power brokers and frustrated office seekers" allegedly driven more by personal ambition than genuine national interest. It also questioned the democratic credentials of the opposition bloc, claiming that internal wrangling, factionalism, and opportunistic defections have significantly weakened its moral authority to campaign on critical issues of governance and accountability. The APC maintained that Nigeria has outgrown what it termed old politics characterized by entitlement, elite rotation, and recycled leadership, suggesting that the electorate now demands more substantive change.

Defense of Current Administration

In a robust defense of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party stated that the country is currently undergoing bold and necessary reforms aimed at addressing longstanding structural challenges. While acknowledging that some of these policies may be difficult in the short term, the APC insisted they are courageous and future-oriented, unlike previous administrations that allegedly left behind a legacy of excuses and unfulfilled promises. This defense positions the current government as proactive and reform-minded, in contrast to the opposition's portrayal.

2027 Elections as a Defining Moment

The party asserted that the 2027 elections will serve as a defining moment for Nigerians to distinguish between genuine leadership and what it called recycled ambition. It added that the electorate will not hand power to individuals whose past records, according to the party, reflect wasted opportunities and failed legacies. "The years of the locusts are gone forever, and by the grace of the Nigerian electorate, they shall remain buried in the graveyard of failed political experiments," the statement concluded, using vivid imagery to underscore its point about moving beyond past failures.
