Grassroots Supporters Mobilize N188 Million for Ahmad Lawan's 2027 Governorship Campaign in Yobe
In a significant show of political backing, supporters have raised approximately N188 million to fund the 2027 governorship bid of Senator Ahmad Lawan, the former President of the Senate representing Yobe North. The fundraising event, which took place on Sunday in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, was organized to bolster Lawan's pursuit of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial ticket ahead of the upcoming 2027 elections.
Appreciation and Details of the Fundraising Drive
In an appreciation message issued recently, Senator Lawan expressed his gratitude to the Coalition of Yobe East Progressive Youths, led by Mohammed Yerima, for spearheading the fundraising campaign. He highlighted that the funds were accumulated through a combination of pledges, cash donations, and bank transfers, showcasing a broad-based financial effort from his constituents.
Notably, the senator emphasized the grassroots nature of the contributions, with donations ranging from as little as N100 to N3,000. He pointed out that the contributors included a diverse array of ordinary citizens, such as widows, mechanic apprentices, traders, and students. "That, to me, is the true definition of grassroots participation and community ownership," Lawan remarked, adding that this effort redefines what it means to be progressive citizens in Yobe State.
Implications for Governance and Community Engagement
Senator Lawan further stated that this gesture reflects a shared commitment to fostering an open and accountable government in Yobe State. He articulated his desire to serve as a response to the call of the people, concluding with a prayer: "My desire to serve is to answer the call of our people. May Allah continue to direct and guide us in this endeavour. Amin." This fundraising initiative not only provides financial backing but also signals strong local support for Lawan's political aspirations, potentially shaping the dynamics of the APC primaries and the broader electoral landscape in 2027.
