The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is facing mounting pressure from a youth group over the delayed release of its primary election results in Anambra State. The group, Youths for Credible Democrats of Nigeria (YCDON), has issued an ultimatum demanding immediate transparency.
Youths Express Concern Over Delay
Speaking after an emergency meeting in Ogidi, Idemili North Coordinator Amb. Ifeanyi Anyadiegwu criticized the party for keeping aspirants and supporters in suspense while other parties have already declared their candidates. He warned that the delay could lead to manipulation and damage the party's democratic image.
Demand for Transparent Results
YCDON called on NDC to release the exact field figures without further delay. Amb. Anyadiegwu stated that the prolonged withholding of results has caused anxiety and rumors among party members, undermining trust in the electoral process.
Endorsement of Emmanuel Nwobosi
The group also endorsed Hon. Emmanuel Ike Nwobosi, former Senior Special Assistant to the Anambra State Governor on IGR, for the Idemili North state constituency seat. They cited his manifesto, family background, and positive impact on youth as reasons for their support.
YCDON urged NDC to declare Nwobosi as the winner, given his massive support during the primaries. The group emphasized that the party must prioritize fairness and transparency to maintain credibility.
Background on NDC Primaries
The NDC held nationwide primaries for legislative and state positions over two weeks ago, but official results have yet to be released. This has sparked criticism from party members and observers, who fear backroom deals may override the ballot box.
Earlier, Peter Obi had called for unity among NDC aspirants, urging them to accept primary outcomes and work together for the party's growth. The party leadership has pledged stronger grassroots mobilization and electoral reforms, including electronic voting.
