Ogun Constituents Rally Against Fourth-Term Bid, Advocate for Zoning to Ifo
A coalition of constituents in Ogun State, operating under the banner of the Ifo Lokan 2027 MHR Movement, has publicly rejected the fourth-term bid of the serving House of Representatives member for the Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency, Ibrahim Isiaka. The group declared that "the time has come for fairness, equity, and justice to prevail" in the constituency's political representation.
Petition Submitted at APC Secretariat in Abeokuta
The group's spokesman, Femi Akala, led hundreds of constituents to the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Abeokuta yesterday to submit a formal petition. The petition, addressed to the Ogun State Chairman of the APC, Yemi Sanusi, was received by the party's Administrative Secretary, Segun Bankole. This move underscores the coalition's organized effort to influence party decisions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Insistence on Zoning to Ifo Local Council
The Movement has made its position clear on the issue of zoning, firmly insisting that "the 2027 House of Representatives seat for the Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency must be zoned to Ifo Local Council." The members rejected any extension of the incumbent's stay, arguing that such a move would contradict the principles of inclusion, equity, and justice that the APC upholds. They emphasized that their agitation is not confrontational but a demand for fairness and inclusiveness to guide the party's decisions.
Warnings and Appeals for Party Unity
The coalition also issued a warning against ignoring the call for a power shift, stressing that zoning the seat to Ifo would not diminish the partnership between Ifo and Ewekoro local councils. Instead, they argued it would strengthen trust, reinforce party unity, and sustain long-term cohesion within the constituency. Akala stated, "Zoning the seat to Ifo would not diminish the partnership between the two local councils; rather, it would strengthen trust, reinforce the party's unity, and sustain long-term cohesion within the constituency."
In their appeal, the group expressed respect for the party's leadership, noting, "We submit this appeal letter with the utmost respect, mindful of your wisdom and leadership. The voices rising from Ifo are not voices of protest but voices of hope that the party's long-standing principles of fairness and inclusiveness will guide its decisions as preparations for the 2027 elections progress." They concluded by congratulating the leadership on their re-election and assuring continued loyalty and constructive engagement.
