Osun 2026: APC Candidate Oyebamiji Commits to Inclusive Governance Amid Election Build-Up
Ahead of the crucial August 15 governorship election in Osun State, the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, has made a firm commitment to establish an inclusive governance framework that will embrace all residents, irrespective of ethnic, political, or religious affiliations. This promise was delivered during a public engagement meeting with the Arewa community in Ibokun, located within the Obokun Local Council area of the state.
Structured Approach to Participation
Oyebamiji, who was represented at the gathering by Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker and ex-Special Adviser on Civic Engagement to previous Governor Gboyega Oyetola, emphasized that his administration would implement a structured strategy to foster participatory governance. This approach aims to accommodate diverse segments of society, ensuring that every voice is heard and considered in decision-making processes.
Lawmakers Reject Tinubu Endorsement Claims
In a related development, five APC lawmakers representing Osun State in the National Assembly have strongly refuted assertions that President Bola Tinubu has endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term. Operating under the G-5 caucus, these legislators clarified that no agreement or assurance exists from the President to support Adeleke in the upcoming August 15 governorship election.
The statement, jointly signed by Senators Adenigba Fadahunsi and Olubiyi Fadeyi, along with Representatives Oluwole Oke, Bimbo Ajilesoro, and Sanya Omirin, was issued in Osogbo. All signatories recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. They urged the public to dismiss what they labeled as misleading claims about a supposed alliance between Tinubu and Adeleke, stressing the importance of accurate information in the electoral process.
Accord Party Criticizes APC Over Local Council Funds
Meanwhile, the Osun State chapter of the Accord Party (AP) has launched sharp criticism against Oyebamiji and the APC, accusing them of unlawfully seizing control of local councils and their monthly allocations. In a statement released by its Chairman, Victor Akande, and made available to journalists in Osogbo, the party warned that the APC would face consequences for its actions and inactions during the governorship polls.
The Accord Party highlighted that residents of Osun State are fully aware of what they described as the dangerous antics of the APC regarding local government funds. This criticism adds another layer of complexity to the political landscape, as parties gear up for a competitive election season.
As the August 15 election approaches, these developments underscore the intense political maneuvering and promises shaping the race for Osun State's leadership, with inclusivity and accountability emerging as key themes in the discourse.
