The final collation of results for the Osun State governorship election has commenced at the designated collation centre in Osogbo, the state capital. This follows the conclusion of results collation at the respective levels of the 30 local government areas (LGAs) in the state.
Returning Officers Present LGA Results
The designated Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officers for the various LGAs are expected to present the results from their respective areas for verification and final approval by the Returning Officer for the election. The final collation will determine the overall result of the governorship election, following the conclusion of voting and the collation of results at polling units, wards, and local government levels.
According to INEC, Osun State has 2,399,233 registered voters. Of this number, 1,906,390 collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and were eligible to vote across polling units in 332 wards and 30 LGAs of the South-western state.
Voting and Turnout Details
PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported that voting commenced at about 8:30 a.m. across polling units in the 30 local government areas. Voter turnout in some LGAs was described as impressive, while low turnout was reported in other areas. PREMIUM TIMES correspondents on the ground also reported several cases of vote trading at polling units across the state.
Fifteen political parties are on the ballot for the election. However, results emerging from the polling units have so far indicated that the contest is largely a two-horse race between the Accord Party candidate and incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Next Steps in the Collation Process
The designated Returning Officers will take turns to present the final results from their respective LGAs, before the final winner is announced. The process is ongoing, and the final collation will determine the overall outcome of the governorship election.
