PDP Aspirant Olufemi Ajadi Engages Ibadan Mogajis in Key 2027 Strategy Move

In a significant political maneuver, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a leading governorship aspirant for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, held a crucial meeting with the Mogajis of Ibadanland on Saturday. The gathering, held at the historic Mopo Hall in Oja’ba, Ibadan, underscored the aspirant's focus on traditional institutions as pivotal stakeholders in the state's political and developmental trajectory ahead of the 2027 elections.

Ajadi Seeks Blessings and Support from Traditional Leaders

During the courtesy visit, Ajadi formally announced his gubernatorial ambition to the revered Mogajis, emphasizing Ibadanland's central role in Oyo State politics. "I am here today to formally inform you, our revered fathers, about my gubernatorial aspiration and to seek your blessings and support," he stated. He highlighted that no serious contender can overlook the Mogajis, who represent the authentic voices of their various families and communities.

Tracing his roots, Ajadi revealed his connection to Osengere in Egbeda Local Government Area, asserting his deep ties to Ibadanland. "I am from Osengere in Egbeda Local Government, and Chief Bode Amoo remains the ancestral head of our household. I have come to you as your son, with humility and respect, because I understand the role you play as custodians of our tradition and as community leaders," he added.

Pledges to Prioritize Grassroots Development and Continuity

The PDP aspirant assured the Mogajis that, if elected in 2027, his administration would prioritize grassroots development, youth empowerment, and stronger collaboration with traditional institutions across Oyo State. He pledged to build on the developmental strides of the current administration led by Governor Seyi Makinde, stating, "My administration will be based on the continuity of the good governance of our leader, Governor Engineer Seyi Makinde."

In a show of support, Ajadi donated funds to assist the Mogaji forum with its ongoing building projects, further cementing his commitment to the traditional institution.

Mogajis Emphasize Integrity and Influence in Political Success

Responding on behalf of the Mogajis, Alhaji Mogaji Asimiyu Ariyori Adepoju Olorisa, the Aare Mogaji of Ibadanland, stressed the strategic importance of traditional family heads in administering and stabilizing Ibadanland. "We are the ones running the affairs of Ibadanland under the leadership of the Olubadan, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja. Whoever pays due respect to the Mogajis has respected the entire Ibadanland," he declared.

Adepoju noted that political aspirants must recognize the Mogajis' influence to achieve success, citing Governor Seyi Makinde's previous engagement as an example. "Anyone who wants to achieve his political aspiration in Ibadan must identify with the Mogajis. When Governor Seyi Makinde came to us, we told him he would emerge victorious, and he eventually did. We pray that your own aspiration will also be fulfilled," he stated.

However, he advised Ajadi to remain committed to his promises, emphasizing that leadership hinges on integrity and keeping faith with the people.

Prayers and Encouragement from Mogaji Leaders

Other Mogajis present at the meeting offered prayers and words of encouragement. Mogaji Muyideen Omitola prayed for divine guidance and success, saying, "May Almighty God grant your heart’s desire and make your aspiration a reality if it is good for the people of Oyo State."

Mogaji Wasiu Salako highlighted the need for more support for the Mogaji institution, urging Ajadi to remember them in his endeavors. "The Mogaji forum also requires financial support for its activities and development. We pray that God grants your wish and also touches your heart to remember this institution," he said.

Mogaji Olasokun of the Alekuso area explained the vital role of Mogajis as links between the Olubadan and the grassroots, noting their foundational position in the Ibadan traditional hierarchy.

Traditional Prayers and Broader Political Implications

Alhaja Rashidat Ogundipe, known as Iya Atipako, was invited to offer prayers for the governorship hopeful. She prayed, "May Almighty God grant your gubernatorial ambition if it is destined to be, and may you and your supporters live long in good health to witness the dividends of your leadership."

This visit is part of Ajadi's ongoing consultations with key stakeholders, traditional leaders, and political interest groups across Oyo State as political activities for the 2027 governorship election gain momentum. Political observers note that such engagements highlight the enduring influence of Ibadan's traditional institutions in shaping political outcomes, given the city's demographic and political dominance within the state.
