The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) achieved a historic win in the Adamawa State Local Government Elections, securing all 21 local government chairmanship seats and the 226 councillorship positions. The election, held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, saw the PDP emerge victorious across all 226 wards in the state.
ADSIEC Announces Results
The Chairman of the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC), Mohammed Umar, announced the results at the ADSIEC headquarters in Yola. Umar stated that the PDP won every chairmanship and councillorship contest after a smooth collation process. Security personnel, election observers, representatives of political parties, and ADSIEC commissioners were present during the declaration. However, Umar did not disclose the total number of votes cast.
Peaceful Conduct Praised
Umar praised the people of Adamawa State for their peaceful conduct and support throughout the electoral process. He described their cooperation as instrumental to the successful conduct of the polls. The ADSIEC chairman also expressed appreciation to security agencies and other stakeholders for ensuring that the elections were conducted peacefully and successfully across the state.
Voters Allege Selective Voting
During the elections, some residents alleged non-arrival of electoral officials and materials in several communities. Voters claimed that voting was restricted to selected polling units amid accusations of limited participation. The election outcomes have triggered complaints over alleged disenfranchisement and credibility concerns in affected areas.
Similar LG Elections Across Nigeria
The Adamawa LG elections follow similar developments in other states. The Lagos Independent Electoral Commission declared winners of LG elections, while winners emerged in Osun, Plateau, Borno, Ogun, Kaduna, Kano, and Niger LG elections. In Niger State, the NSIEC announced winners for all 25 local government areas and 274 wards.
