Peter Obi Alleges Government Plot to Block 2027 Presidential Bid, Demands Fair Elections

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has made serious allegations against the Federal Government of Nigeria, claiming that authorities are actively working to prevent him from contesting in the 2027 presidential election. The prominent political figure, who now represents the African Democratic Congress, made these statements while advocating for a transparent and trustworthy electoral system.

Political Persecution Claims and Election Integrity Demands

In a video message shared with his supporters, Obi detailed what he described as systematic efforts to undermine his political ambitions. "The Federal Government of Nigeria doesn't want me to contest in the 2027 presidential election," Obi stated emphatically. "Everything they are doing is about me."

The former Labour Party presidential candidate emphasized that his demands are reasonable given the current political landscape. "We are not asking for much," he explained. "They already have the governors and ministers; we are only asking for a free and fair election."

Recalling Past Political Struggles and Legal Battles

Obi reflected on his challenging political journey, including periods of isolation and prolonged legal conflicts. "I have been in this very difficult business where people abandoned you completely for one election," he recounted. "I spent three years in court, and no one followed me there."

The politician described even more difficult experiences, stating, "I have been impeached, returned to my village where no one wanted to see me, and removed from office twice." According to Obi, these adversities have strengthened his resolve for future political challenges. "So there is nothing I will not see again. All these things being said about me are not new," he added.

Uncertainty About ADC Presidential Ticket and Political Alliances

Despite his determination, Obi expressed uncertainty about securing the African Democratic Congress presidential nomination for the 2027 elections. "Someone asked me how I know for sure that the ADC will give me the presidential ticket," he said. "I cannot be certain. What matters is that we are committed to a cause."

Obi acknowledged the unpredictable nature of political partnerships, questioning, "How can we be certain that the people we're working with right now won't leave us behind tomorrow? I wish we could be sure, but we can't."

Recognition of Supporters and Opposition Challenges

The former presidential candidate praised his supporters for their resilience in the face of political difficulties. "I thank you for your sacrifice," Obi expressed gratefully. "It's not easy to be in the opposition in Nigeria, and I'm thankful to those who keep supporting even when there's no clear reward."

Obi contrasted his position with that of the current administration, suggesting, "They have all the contacts. They know the queen and the king, while we do not. They have everything." Despite these perceived disadvantages, Obi maintained his commitment to his political objectives, stating that reported threats have not deterred him from pursuing his goals.
