NIS Deploys Passport Intervention Team to UK in August 2026

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the deployment of a dedicated Passport Intervention Team to the United Kingdom, aimed at facilitating the processing and issuance of passports to Nigerians residing in the country. The intervention, directed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is scheduled to commence on 10 August 2026, according to a statement released on Sunday via the NIS’s official X page.

Details of the Intervention

The statement confirmed that the Minister directed the Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, to deploy the team from the NIS Headquarters to the UK. The team will collaborate with the Nigerian High Commission in the UK to handle pending, new, and renewal passport applications.

The NIS also disclosed that the team will visit designated cities across the UK to conduct passport enrolment and processing. This move is designed to enable eligible applicants living in different parts of the country to access the exercise without the need to travel to a central location.

Eligibility and Requirements

The intervention is open to three categories of applicants: those with pending passport applications, first-time applicants, and holders of passports with less than one year remaining before expiry who wish to apply for renewal. The NIS advised applicants to present their completed application forms and proof of payment during enrolment.

While the detailed schedule, including cities to be visited, dates, venues, and enrolment times, will be announced separately, the NIS urged applicants not to proceed to any location until the official schedule is communicated. Nigerians in the UK are advised to monitor the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission for further details.

Additional Services and Contact

The NIS clarified that all digital passport application channels will remain operational throughout the intervention. The Contactless Passport Application System will continue to function, and the home-delivery service will remain available to applicants. The service emphasized that the intervention is part of ongoing efforts to ease and streamline passport applications for Nigerians in the diaspora.

For enquiries or complaints relating to the UK intervention, the NIS provided an email address ([email protected]) and a WhatsApp-only line (+234 916 087 8000). The service encouraged applicants to use these channels for any assistance needed during the exercise.
