President Bola Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate. The nomination has been formally transmitted to the National Assembly for screening and approval in line with constitutional provisions.
The Presidency, in a statement issued by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that Tegbe's nomination follows the resignation of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.
Background of the Nominee
The nominee, an indigene of Oyo State, is a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across the public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation and governance. He has also advised government institutions and private sector organisations on strategic reforms, regulatory frameworks and investment structuring.
Tegbe currently serves as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he coordinates efforts to deepen development cooperation between Nigeria and the People's Republic of China, including engagements aligned with the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation framework.
Power Sector Experience
His experience also spans the power sector, with notable involvement in regulatory and institutional reforms linked to agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
Expected Impact
The nomination is expected to bolster ongoing efforts to reform the power sector, improve grid stability and attract sustainable investment in line with the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda. President Tinubu expressed confidence that, upon confirmation, the minister-designate will leverage his extensive expertise to drive critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes in Nigeria's power sector.
