Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has demanded urgent clarification from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding an alleged breach of the voter database.
Atiku raised concerns over reports suggesting that sensitive voter information may have been exposed. He warned that such incidents could significantly weaken public trust in the electoral process, which is already under scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He specifically called for an immediate and transparent explanation from INEC on how the alleged breach occurred, as well as the measures being taken to prevent a recurrence. The former presidential candidate stressed that protecting voter data is essential to maintaining the credibility and integrity of Nigeria’s elections.
The controversy has continued to generate reactions from political stakeholders and civil society groups, who are calling for a full investigation into the incident. Many have urged INEC to provide a comprehensive report to reassure the public that the electoral system remains secure.
